National museum In The USA You Can Explore From Your couch

As many people practice social distancing — or staying home and avoiding crowds and public spaces — to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, several museums, and theaters have temporarily closed in the name of public health.

But amid the coronavirus pandemic, many places of leisure and cultural institutions are opening their doors virtually to provide resources, online activities, and tours to give people a fun way to stay entertained and connected to the outside world while they’re spending more time at home.

The J. Paul Getty Museum, LA

Featuring works from the eighth to the twenty-first century, The J. Paul Getty Museum houses its collections in one of the most striking buildings in Los Angeles. Although you may not be able to appreciate the features in person, google allows you to view nearly 16,000 pieces from the museum’s collection.

Musee d’Orsay, Paris

A staple of Paris’ art scene, the Musee d’Orsay was built in the 1900s in a former railway station and has since focused its collection on art from 1848 to 1914. You can find about 278 pieces of artwork housed in this museum on Google.

MoMA, New York

Founded in the year 1929, the Museum of Modern Art was the first museum dedicated to collecting and presenting art from the modern era. The institution houses paintings from the likes of Van Gogh and Picasso. Google may only show you 129 of those artworks, alternatively you can visit their YouTube channel to learn more about the artists and techniques used to create some of the most famous works of art.

National Museum, Delhi

The National Museum has been India’s premier museum since opening its doors in 1949. It is now home to thousands of works of art spanning over 5,000 years of history, including paintings, Sculpture, jewellery, ancient texts and armour. Over 600 of these items are available on Google for your viewing.

Tate Britain, London

One of the UK’s most respected museums, the Tate was opened in 1897 and has built perhaps the foremost collection of British art dating back to the Tudor era and including a large holding of J.M.W. Turner’s work. Two-hundred and seventy works of arts — from Dante Gabriel Rosetti’s Proserpine to Millais’s Ophelia — are available through Google.

Museo Frida Kahlo, Mexico City

La Casa Azul is where acclaimed artist Frida Kahlo lived and died. It is also home to the museum honoring her life and artistic legacy. Nearly 70 examples of Kahlo’s personal effects, artworks and attire are accessible digitally, including the body cast she famously painted while ill and Self-Portrait Wearing a Velvet Dress.
